Shortcut to Quit/Close a Program

More keyboard jockey shortcuts, or maybe they are just lazy shortcuts… Either way, here is a quick way to close a program. Hit (press, hold then release together) Alt and F4 on your keyboard (in Windows XP/Vista/7), which will close/quit the program that you are currently in.

As screens get larger and have higher resolutions, we need to move our cursor farther to move from one side of the screen to the other. While I don’t always use this key sequence, I do find it useful from time to time.  More »

Shortcut to Cycle Through Programs, Windows, Tabs

For the most part I am a keyboard jockey, which basically means as much as possible I like to keep my hands on the keyboard, and avoid using the mouse whenever possible. Why? It saves time by keeping me from having to physically move my hand to the mouse. This might seem silly, but back when I was still doing web development, and had 5 development programs running, 10 windows open, and 20 tabs open in 5 different browsers it can be time consuming to take your hand off the keyboard to find the mouse just to switch to a different program.
