It’s official, Microsoft announced today that Windows Phone 7 will launch on November 8, 2010.

Update: Full keynote available at Engadget.

Great WP7 handset comparison by Engadget.

My provider is T-Mobile, and I have been really hoping that HTC would step up and provide it’s most loyal provider (no pun intended) with some really good handsets, and from the looks of it we won’t be disappointed. There will be three initial offerings from HTC for Windows Phone 7.

Gizmodo provided a nice summary for all of the Windows 7 Phone Handsets that will be available at launch.

Of course the biggest criticisms of the new phone OS from Microsoft, is that it is already a generation or two behind Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android. Some basic features like copy and paste won’t be available until early 2011. And as mentioned previously, there won’t be any tethering capability at launch. boo.

Oh, and there won’t be any Windows Phone 7 devices available at Verizon until 2011.

Despite early reports of Windows Phone 7 supporting tethering, Microsoft has just confirmed that tethering will not be supported with the first release of Windows Phone 7. “Tethering” refers to using a mobile phone as a modem for a computer, usually connected via a USB cable or Bluetooth. The new Microsoft mobile phone operating system is now several features behind its competitors. At launch, Windows Phone 7 will not have copy/paste, third-party multitasking, tethering, replaceable memory cards, and will not be launching on CDMA networks (Verizon, Sprint) until 2011. I have been looking forward to WP7 for sometime now, but I disapprove the lack of tether support. Arguably the average user will not need tether support as WP7 is capable of doing the majority of mobile computing tasks. However, as a business user who spends a lot of time away from the office, the ability to tether my phone to my laptop does come in handy.

In a surprise move yesterday, Microsoft officially announced Windows Phone 7 Series, and simultaneously killed Windows Mobile 6.x phone sales for the rest of 2010. I have seen screen shots, and watched hands-on videos provided by the various tech sites, and I like what I have seen so far, other than the somewhat ridiculous naming convention. The Windows Phone 7 Series isn’t set to release till the 2010 holiday season, and Microsoft plans to ,”[take] more accountability”, in terms of user experience, by having more stringent requirements that OEMs will need to meet.

Rather that blab on about information that is so readily available (go and google Windows Phone 7 Series), I’ll just provide some links to good articles here.
